About Beach Aware

The East of England has some of the best and most beautiful beaches in the UK. With 48 designated bathing waters and 20 Blue Flags, it’s famous the world over as one of Britain’s top seaside destinations.

In 2012, for the first time, those looking after our beaches must provide information about the quality of the sea water. Anglian Water, sponsors of this website, will provide information to beach managers to help them give these updates.

Anglian

A pathfinder project focused on Southwold, Suffolk
For the next few months this trial project will focus on the bathing beaches in Southwold, Suffolk.

The website will provide the very latest information from Anglian Water about any impact on the quality of the bathing water due to storm related pollution from Combined Sewer Overflows.

Occasionally, heavy rainfall or unseasonal weather means that emergency sewer overflows have to be activated. This is to prevent flooding to people’s homes and gardens, but certain tidal conditions can mean these rare spills have a detrimental impact on bathing water quality. If that happens, Beach Aware will let you know. Please see the terms and conditions associated with this website below.
